Application For
Karen Colini Horticulture Scholarship Fund

The Karen Colini Horticulture Scholarship Fund has been created to provide financial assistance to those wanting to further their education in one of the many areas of horticulture.  The field of horticulture can include landscaping, consultation, gardening, research, nursery work, conservation, horticulture therapy, etc.

This financial aid offer is available to students attending high school, vocational school, pursuing college undergraduate, advanced degrees, and non-degree seeking students studying at an accredited college, university, major botanic garden, or arboretum.  One scholarship of $1000.00 will be awarded per year.  The award will be based on nonacademic performance, extra-curricular activities, work experience and demonstrated interest in a green industry career.  There will be no discrimination based on age, sex, color, race, or religious belief.

 

The application deadline is deadline is 12:00 midnight December 31.  Funds will be awarded March 15.  Incomplete applications or applications received after deadline will not be reviewed.

Application must include:

1.) Fully completed application and personal letter of intent addressed to The Design Network should:

      a.)  Be 300 - 500 words describing yourself

      b.)  State your goals for employment in the field of horticulture

      c.)  Include your plans for the future

      d.)  State why you deserve this scholarship

      e.)  Show examples of your leadership

      f.)  Include any of your community involvement

      g.)  State what knowledge and experience this scholarship will help you gain.

2.)  Two letters of recommendations dated and signed in current year from two of the following:  horticulture educator, employer, advisor, or mentor.  Please be sure they include their name, title, email address, and phone number.  Send via email to:  thedesignnetworkoh@gmail.com with the applicant's name as the subject title.  References should not be a relative of the applicant.  

3.)  Most current transcript from all schools attended (high school, vocational school, college or university).  Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

4.)  Current photo with written statement from you giving permission to use your photo and name for potential future publication by The Design Network.

Applicants may be interviewed by a panel of Design Network members.
